Aaron Falconer is now a BC alumni whose musical talent and generosity in sharing it earned him the ‘Outstanding Service to the Arts’ award at Bethlehem College in 2011. Aaron kindly answered some of our questions about his involvement and passion for the arts.
What has been your involvement in the arts at BC?
I've been involved in a number of arts activities/events at B.C over the years. I've been a part of/lead worship bands since Yr. 7, including leading worship at Easter Services and playing at the annual galas. In Yr. 11, I played bass for the Jazz Band, which was hugely helpful in developing my musicianship. From the end of Yr. 11 onwards I sang in the Animoso Choir. During 2011, I was involved in leading worship at assemblies, organized the band for the Easter Service and lead it, danced in our winning Stage Challenge cast, was a section leader in Animoso, helped out with the Yr. 6 worship band, and performed at various other events such as the Gala.
What do you enjoy about what you do?
Playing music and leading worship through music is my passion. Some of my greatest memories have been playing music with friends. I get such a buzz out of just 'nailing' a performance or seeing people connect with God through the music I play.
Why do you think art (in a broad sense) is important?
I think that the arts are vital in helping people to express their creativity and outwork their passions.
Aaron will be studying a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Auckland this year. We wish you all the best Aaron and look forward to hearing about your new adventures.
