Invest in building lives
YOU in the past year have made possible the granting of 28 scholarships and 6 hardship grants to the students of Bethlehem College and Bethlehem Tertiary Institute. On their behalf we thank you for this investment in building the lives of our youth. This is what they and their parents say:
“We are very thankful for the school’s values, the special character and the quality of the teachers that help emphasise the value of our faith and character alongside the importance of education”
“We are so grateful that … belongs to a school family where they find acceptance, support and encouragement in their continued struggle with the demands of education”
“It is an amazing gift”
“This scholarship changes so much for not only myself, but also for my family. I hope to honour the faith you have exhibited in me”
We join the recipients and their families in expressing our thanks for this generosity, often maintained over many years.
YOU made possible the development of the first stage of the Foundation Sports Project with the April 2011 opening of the Rugby Club rooms; the undertaking of the first stages of the second stage – the new cricket and football fields – with the clearing of the shelter-belt; and valued contributions to the 2010-11 costs of coaching and development for the major sports codes. There is, of course, a very long way yet to go with the overall project and we gratefully recognise those of you making multiple-year and tax rebate contributions. To others who are yet to give – we need your help!
We also acknowledge the generous support of the Legacy Foundation, Grassroots Trust and the Tauranga Energy Consumer Trust during the past year.
YOU have so generously contributed a total of $379,510 in gifts and commitments during the 2010-11 year. This investment in building lives is a tremendous outcome viewed in the context of the economic circumstances of the year and the multiple other demands for support which have occurred. We were also pleased through your support to be able to add a small sum to the College’s support for the victims of the Christchurch upheaval.
Many corporates also contributed in kind and in donated or subsidised services. The support for a sixth year of the Bay of Plenty Times, Eves Realty and the Sebel Trinity Wharf not only raised almost $10,000 for the Foundation but also enabled us to contribute $2,100 to support the noble work of “Growing through Grief” in our community.
Other corporates who assisted our operations were our pro-bono investment advisors –Craigs Investment Partners; accountants – WHK; and legal advisors – Sharp Tudhope.
WE are extremely grateful to the anonymous parties whose funds enabled the completion just before year-end of a project which we trust will raise funds for both the Bethlehem and New Zeal Foundations of “The Great Lake House” designed by Ambienti Architects, built by Belvedere Construction, interior design by Jen Pack of Auckland, Display Furnishing by Greerton Furnishings, and to be marketed by Harcourts.
We also acknowledge the contributions of sub-contractors: Placemakers, Letts Structural Steel, Supreme Lock and Hardware, Switch Electrical, Dromgool Painters, and Heirloom Kitchens, and the major financial support of Belvedere Construction themselves. Marketing by Harcourts commences on 1 July.
WE acknowledge the service throughout the year of many volunteers and advisors, and in particular for the House and Sports projects of Paul Clinton, and for the House Projectand Photo Auction of Geoff Payne. We have continued to be faithfully served without fee by our Trustees – Helen Gregory (Chair), Judy Brown-Harpur, Andrew Corin, Andrew Knowles, John McDougall, and Stephen Tetley-Jones. During the year Kevin Wearne and Stephan Bosman retired from the Board and we take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge their service.
WE give thanks to God and to you for your support which makes possible that which we seek to do in His name.
Peter Wyatt MNZM.
Chief Executive Officer 1st July 2011
A word from the Chair –Helen Gregory
It has been my great pleasure to serve as Chair of the Foundation over the last twelve months. I have had a great level of support from our Board members, who give generously of their time, advice and support. For this I have been very grateful.
Our CEO has continued to put in much effort, creativity and hard work into the Foundation over the past twelve monthsthroughout the past year, and the Board is very appreciativeof his effort.
Once again we have had a very successful year, achieving - thanks to you our supporters and donors - great results. We have seen exciting projects such as the Rugby Club rooms and The Great Lake House through to completion. None of this would have been achieved without our incredibly generous donors to whom we are sincerely grateful.
May God continue to bless the Christian Education offered through the Christian Education Trust, its operating entities, and the outreaches in which it participates.
