Marinus Abrie and Daniella Schroder have a lot of shared history from their years at Bethlehem College (BC). They first met in pre-school, and travelled through primary school in the same year, even winning the Principals Cup at the same time. At secondary level they worked together as Co-Cultural Captains one year – and they are now joining forces once again as Head Boy & Head Girl for 2012! With so many shared experiences, they are bound to be a great team.
Daniella explains that being Head Student at Bethlehem College “means running the weekly assemblies at school, as well as chairing the student council and having regular meetings with the college principal so we can just keep up to date with what’s going on around the school.” Marinus adds, “We also get to be involved with the primary kids, doing primary devotions, and be ambassador for the school at other school balls and events,”
They are both looking forward to the experience. Marinus is particularly looking forward to helping to foster good ties between the secondary and primary students at BC. He comments, “One of the things I’d like to contribute this year is to be a role model for the primary students. It’s always nice to know someone up in the secondary school. I remember being in primary – I never knew anyone up in secondary – and it was quite intimidating! It would be nice to make it less scary for the younger children.”
Daniella & Marinus are united in their desire to stay true to the special character of Bethlehem College. Daniella explains, “I’m excited to see the new direction BC can take in 2012 – see that we keep rising and keep growing and see what God can do here as well. We’re really keen to keep growing the faith - just encouraging all students to be really confident in what it is they believe in and standing up for the schools values.
We asked Daniella & Marinus what message they would like to give to the students of Bethlehem College as they head into 2012.
Message From Daniella
“It’s just such a beautiful school we attend. I would encourage everyone to make the most of every opportunity – form great friendships ‘cause you end up finishing school with the people you meet when you’re a little kid! Take hold of all the chances you get, and go hard cause it’s worth it.
Message from Marinus
“I encourage everyone just to enjoy their time at school. As you come to your last year you start to realise how much the school has been a part of you, especially if you’ve been here for a long time. It is a fantastic school - it has lots of facilities and really helps to grow you as a person, so I say just enjoy it and have fun.”
